Recognising signs and symptoms of obstructive HCM

While not all patients with obstructive HCM have symptoms, those that have symptomatic obstructive HCM may display a variety of signs and symptoms that may facilitate recognition of the condition in the general practice and prompt referral to a cardiologist to confirm diagnosis.1

  • Breathlessness
  • Orthopnoea
  • Dizziness
  • Angina
  • Palpitations
  • Arrythmias
  • Syncope
  • Pulmonary congestion
  • Excessive sweating

Potential complications of obstructive HCM:1–4

  • Heart failure
  • Cardiac arrest
  • Endocarditis
  • Stroke
  • Atrial fibrillation
